About the producer:
Morijana was founded by Lynn Johnston, from Sydney, Australia. After working with people in poverty in her homeland and overseas, Lynn came to passionately believe that developing and giving women skills and creating micro-business is key to empowering those in need. Initially working in Cambodia with an anti-trafficking organization, Lynn has spent the past five years working with slum/homeless communities in Phnom Penh and women wanting to escape forced prostitution.
After witnessing the great needs in a society trying to rebuild after the Khmer Rouge Genocide, Lynn had it impressed upon her heart to not only help those in poverty in the day to-day but also develop practical skill-based training and opportunities that they may use for their future.
Thus with two Cambodian leaders and the street community she worked in, Lynn developed what eventually became Morijana and the sister NGO, Wellspring Initiative.
The premise was to create an ethical fashion brand which empowers vulnerable women and creates income to support the ‘Wellspring Initiative’ work in the rubbish dump slums of Phnom Penh.
Currently Wellspring has two Khmer social worker staff who work in the slum communities in Phnom Penh. They provide education, hygiene information, play therapy and support to the children; and build strong relationships with the families to give support and gauge their needs.
The initiative in turn creates a network to find suitable women in need for the Morijana.
