A course for those joining the movement against throw-away culture and fast fashion, learn how to pick up a needle and rediscover the forgotten techniques and the joy of mending.
Join us for a fun and creative experience where you'll learn the art of visible mending—a sustainable way to repair and revitalize your favorite clothing pieces.
Course Details:
- Cost: $35 per person
- Duration: 3 hours
- Includes: All necessary materials, tools
- A complimentary morning tea (please advise of any dietary requirements).
- 9 am - 12 noon
- Maximum capacity is 6 per class
- In person class, at our Studio - 20 Robb St Belmont NSW.
What You'll Learn:
Overview of different mending techniques and styles such as:
- Hand stitching basics
- Patching techniques
- Creative Mending:
- Using embroidery to add decorative elements
- Combining different fabrics and threads for unique designs
- Tips for making your mends durable and beautiful
Practical Application:
Hands-on practice with guidance from two expert mending instructors, Sami who is a fashion design graduate and an artistic mender and Yive who is an embroidery enthusiast and has featured Chika embroidery on many of her collections.
We both have a passion for sustainable fashion and years of expertise in sewing and mending. We will guide you through each step, ensuring you leave with the confidence and skills to continue mending artistically at home or join our mending in public days.
What to bring:
Bring a piece of clothing to mend or choose from our practice garments (at an extra $10 cost).
A textile made of woven fabric to mend: denim, linen, and cotton are great choices, as well as household textiles like quilts, tea towels, and tableclothes. This class will not cover stretchy fabrics like leggings or t-shirts.
What’s Included:
- A selection of fabrics and patches
- Variety of threads,
- Sewing tools such as, scissors, needles and embroidery hoops will be on loan during the course (these are to be returned after the class.).
- Tea or Coffee and nibbles.
