NESTING BOXES
Our nesting boxes are made by Fair Trade artisans, located in the Saidpur region, northern Bangladesh. The nesting boxes are made from all natural materials, specifically hogla leaves woven to the shape of the nest and jute to use as stitching / binding.
DECORATIVE USE The nest boxes look great! They can be used to decorate your garden space or like without regard to nesting.
NESTING Whether a bird or other animal decides to nest tin your box depends on a variety of considerations. Here is some information and suggestions. - hollows of trees are the natural habitat for many species of fauna - a nesting box is an introduction of a hollow and can attract both birds and mammals - animals will not forage too far from safety, so next boxes should not be far from food sources - don’t feed animals/birds unless you have knowledge of the food that suits - boxes should be at least 3m from the ground, out of reach of dogs and also humans - place in an inconspicuous position - protected from the weather (cold, rain, direct heat from sun) - you can tell if a bird is nesting as you will see some signs - extra twigs or debris, scratchings - avoid looking in the box, as it could lead to desertion - our nest box entrance holes are around 5cm, so smaller birds suit - examples of the types of birds are: small parrots, lorikeets, tree martins, rufous treekeeper, owlet nightjar - natural nest predators may prey but is this is part of building up an ecosystem.
