Why this product is about social design:
Hemp is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 10,000 years ago.
Hemp farmers do not need to use herbicides or pesticides in the production of the fibre. The hemp plantation improves the soil for crop rotation and is therefore well suited for use in organic and sustainable farming. Hemp is a valuable renewable resource that can reduce our over reliance on cotton, soybeans, timber and petroleum. We just need to get on with it!
The mass introduction of chemical fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides has artificially increased yield, which keeps the price of cotton, other fibre crops and oilseed crops low. As pests have become more resistant to these chemicals, larger quantities of fertilizers are required poisoning both the land and water supplies.
Breathable and Anti-Bacterial
Hemp garments “breathe”, due the porous nature of the fibres. This allows the hemp fabric to stay cooler in warm weather while at the same time retaining heat in cooler weather where body heat warms the air trapped in the fibres.
Hemp naturally prevents up to 95% of the sun’s harmful UV light, while being 5 times as strong as cotton; coupled with its strong anti-fungal and antibacterial properties, this makes the fabric a natural fabric choice.
Hemp is a strong natural fibre and will get softer with general use, while retaining its hard wearing properties for a lasting fabric.
